April 2025 | Member Newsletter

Posted on April 30, 2025April 30, 2025 by Michael
We are so close to fun in the sun at ROSRC!

A General Membership Meeting was held on Monday, April 14th. Thank you to all who attended. There are several updates in this newsletter from that meeting. *Please see workday information- coming up on Saturday, May 3rd.

President/ Brandy Howell:

Message from the President:

As we shared with those in attendance at the all member meeting held on Monday, April 14th, River Oak Swim and Racquet Club’s three year General Liability and Property Insurance policy expires in early May.  We were notified back in March that our long term carrier, Cincinnati Insurance, would not be quoting a renewal policy for us as the high dive was not an exposure that their underwriters would cover.

We began the process of shopping for new coverage through new agencies and new insurance carriers.  Despite great efforts made, we were unable to find any carriers willing to write/quote coverage for us – even in Excessive Risk markets.

Fortunately, Cincinnati came back and agreed to write coverage if we removed the high dive from the property.  Reluctantly, the board voted unanimously to remove the high dive so that our facility could continue forward.

Please understand, this was not a decision easily made.  We understand that disappointment and frustration our members may feel.  Sadly, the loss of the high dive was something entirely out of our hands.

The high dive will be removed the first week of May.  Please stay tuned for a revised opening date.  Brandy

Treasurer Update/Ann Porter:
Thank you to the members who paid your dues and work day assessments on time.

However, we still have almost 40 families who have made no payments and the second installment is fast approaching.

As these fees are now past due, all privileges are now suspended. This includes the ability to reserve tennis or pickleball courts and the right to play on a River Oak tennis team. You are now also subject to a $30 per month late fee.You may pay your dues by depositing a check or cash in the locked mailbox near the pool entrance. You may mail to:
River Oak Swim and Racquet Club

3100 River Drive, Lawrenceville, GA 30044.You may also use the above address for your bank’s on-line bill pay.You may also choose to remit your payment via PayPal.However, we must ask you to absorb the PayPal fee. So to pay you first installment + work day + late charge, please pay $395 to River Oak Swim and Racquet. If you wish to pay the full year dues + work day + late charge, please pay $703.If you believe this information to be in error, or you desire to discontinue membership, please contact me at [email protected].

Membership Chair/Tena Lynn :

We are welcoming several new families this year and are actively seeking new families to join our community.
Growing and maintaining membership is the foundation of keeping our club viable and thriving. As happens each year, we have members moving out of our area and terminating their memberships. It is critical that we bring in new members to balance out those that leave. Some of the incentives to help encourage new members to join us this year include:
– $200 membership fee waived
– An extra $50 referral fee for the first 10 new member families in 2025. (Member Sponsored)
– You can still offer your $100 referral fee to a prospective member to offset their initial cost. Please reach out to me directly for more information at : rosrc.membership@gmail

GENERAL UPDATES

Swim Team:
River Oak Rapids Swim Team is excited to announce that Cyd Brown will be leading the team again this year. Any swim team related questions can be directed to either Cyd at [email protected] or to Brandy Howell at [email protected].There will be two home meets this swim season. Dates to come.

Social Chair Needed:

ROSRC Board seeking a Social Chair…
We understand the hesitancy to volunteer for this role as it has historically required a lot of work and time. The board is approaching this role differently this year to make it more of a lead role that has more support from the board and general membership volunteers for the heavy lifting. If you would consider joining and would like to ask questions or get more information, please contact any current board member.

ROSRC Book Club: NEW!

New this year, we’d like to introduce an ROSRC Book Club. Our first book will be Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt and we will hold our first Book Club Meeting in May – date TBD. Currently – we are looking at week nights early in the week but are open to feedback from those interested. Please email me at [email protected] with book selection suggestions and date/time suggestions for our meetings.  Please consider picking up the book, giving it a read, and join us for poolside discussion!

See you at the pool-

General Meeting & Election

Posted on September 15, 2024September 15, 2024 by Michael

Dear Members,

Our General Membership Meeting will be on Sunday, October 20th at 5pm in the club pavilion. This is an important time for you to hear from our board regarding the state of our club – and to have us hear from you. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend as your participation is valuable to the success of our club.

As you know, every October we vote on board position openings for the following year. The board is looking for dedicated, business-minded individuals who love this club and would be committed to serving a two-year term. If you would be willing to volunteer, you can submit your name to the Secretary by emailing [email protected], mailing it in or hand delivering to the Secretary. Submissions will only be accepted up until midnight on 9/30, and no late submissions will be accepted. Open board positions for the 2024 general meeting election are as follows:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Treasurer
  • Social
  • Public Relations

* Note: Elected members are appointed to a position after the election – taking into consideration the needs of the board, position desired, experience, knowledge, and willingness to learn and participate in the operation of the club.

After all candidates have been determined, the ballot will be sent out to membership the first week of October:

  • Only one vote is allowed per membership family household in good standing (with no outstanding balances owed)
  • Votes can be emailed to [email protected], mailed in or hand delivered to the Secretary by midnight on 10/19 – no late votes will be counted
  • Votes will also be accepted in person at the meeting from attendees prior to commencement and call to order by the president

Votes will be tabulated prior to the conclusion of the meeting.

Thanks for your participation, and we look forward to seeing you on October 20th.

IMPORTANT Update: Volunteers Needed – Labor Day

Posted on August 30, 2024August 30, 2024 by Michael

ROSRC Members,

We’ve had very minimal volunteer signups for the upcoming Labor Day party. Unfortunately, if we do not get enough volunteers for the areas listed below, we will proceed with a potluck but will not be serving or supplying any hamburgers or hot dogs.

Volunteers are urgently needed for:

  • Serving Food
  • Grilling
  • Clean Up

If we cannot get enough member volunteers, we will make a decision by 10 a.m. tomorrow. At that point, we will communicate that the party will shift from our normal food serving to a potluck format only (no hamburgers or hot dogs). You are welcome to bring your own food to grill and handle cleanup yourself.

Please consider signing up asap if you plan to attend: ROSRC: Labor Day Food & Volunteer (signupgenius.com)
