Hello ROSRC members! Happy July!!

Notice:
Pool Chair/Sonny Spratlin-

Pool will be closed a few hours on Tuesday, 7/22, for pump room repairs. The estimated time for completion and reopening of the pool is 1pm

President/ Brandy Howell-

Swim Team Update:

Congratulations goes out to our River Oak Rapids Swim Team on completing another successful summer swim season.  As many of you have heard, we were joined by a number of Cricket Cyclone Swimmers this year as their facility no longer supports a team.  Fortunately, we shared a similar summer swim philosophy and together our team of 93 swimmers were able to – Train Hard, Swim Fast, and Have Fun – together.  Thank you to our Head Coach – Lauren Diehl – who did an outstanding job this year managing a much larger team than last year while also helping to teach skills and help so many of our swimmers improve in the water.  Lauren will be so dearly missed by her swim friends.  And to our wonderful (and very fun) Assistant Coaching Staff – Caitlyn Diehl, Zack Culbertson , Bennett Culbertson, and Steve-Michael Bennett – thank you all for all the hard work and dedication to our kids!  You too will be missed.  We hope you come back to us next season.

A number of our swimmers qualified for individual events at the Gwinnett County Swim Championships at Georgia Tech that was held July 11 – 13th.  Additionally we sent a number of swimmers on our relay teams – many of whom were able to participate in the excitement of the County Championships for the first time.

Finally, I would like to encourage the general membership at River Oak to Congratulate these kids when you see them or ask them how their swim season was.  They began practice in the cold water of May and have spent the last 8 weeks working hard and having fun.  Many of them could out swim most of the adults at our club – myself included! I know it is not always convenient to see the swim team on deck when you or your family wants a quiet hour at the pool; however, we thank you for your patience and understanding as this is truly a worthwhile use of our facility.  These kids are learning a life skill and they are building friendships as the weeks go by.  It is a truly special thing to see children of all ages improve their skills, cheer each other on, help each other learn, and take an active role in their team.  ROSRC should be very proud of the children that represent OUR club.

On that note, mark your calendars because we will open up registration for the 2026 Summer Swim Season next March.  We’d love to have your child(ren) join us!  Join us early because registration will fill up!

Treasurer/ Ann Porter-

Several families still have not picked up their wristbands.
Please email [email protected] to make arrangements to get your member bands as you’re not permitted in the pool gate without them. After 6/15, gate access cards will be turned off for anyone who hasn’t picked up their 2025 bands.

Important Membership Notes-

As summer heats up and pool usage increases, we kindly remind our membership that our facility is a shared space for many member families. Please be respectful of each other.  While using the club facilities –
1. Please clean up your table or seating area before leaving the pool. This includes throwing away any trash and making sure you have all personal belongings before leaving. There are a number of items in the lost and found already. If you are missing something please stop by and check with the guards.
2. The pool deck is equipped with speakers and the lifeguards typically have music playing for all to enjoy. If you wish to bring in your own speaker and listen to something else please keep the volume at a reasonable level so as not to disturb others relaxing at the pool. If in doubt, ask those around you.
3. Use family-friendly language (no cursing or profanity).
4. Be aware of your surroundings. Do not hold open the gate for someone you do not know.
5. Sign in when you enter the pool facility and please make sure to list what time you arrive and leave. We have added the time column to the sign in sheet this year to better understand and plan for when lifeguards are needed during busy/slow times. We need your help for this.
6. Big thanks to those of you who wear and follow our wristband policy. This is the only way that our fellow members and lifeguards can identify who is authorized to be in the pool gates. Please ensure that you and your guests are wearing bands at all times
7. We have had issues with (mostly teenagers) jumping the fence and swimming/going off diving board after hours. Use of pool during closed hours is strictly forbidden, and if anyone sees or hears someone in the pool area after hours to CALL 911

Building and Grounds Chair/Sherri Fowler-
The club is in full swing and busy with the use of the pool and tennis courts. I wanted to inforn the ROSRC community that the light in the ladies restroom will be replaced soon.
The abundance of rain in the last few weeks has made for the perfect breeding environment for mosquitoes. We will be spraying to control them once it begins to dry out. In the meantime, you may want to bring bug spray in your pool bag or tennis bag.
Also, please do NOT park in front of the dumpsters at any time. Trash pick up cannot happen if a car is blocking the dumpster in any way. Please let me know if there are any issues with the building or property outside the pool or tennis courts.

We are asking for members to provide side dishes, desserts, ice, and/or help with decoration, cooking, and clean up! The more members we have involved the more we can ALL enjoy the holiday and the official opening of the Summer at River Oak 2025.

And remember, Memorial Day is a celebration of those that made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. As a club, we want to honor you or your family members that have served our country. Please bring a copy of a photo or a small write up to display during the party so that our members may see and say “thank you.” Don’t forget to include your name!

April 2025 | Member Newsletter

Posted on April 30, 2025April 30, 2025 by Michael
We are so close to fun in the sun at ROSRC!

A General Membership Meeting was held on Monday, April 14th. Thank you to all who attended. There are several updates in this newsletter from that meeting. *Please see workday information- coming up on Saturday, May 3rd.

President/ Brandy Howell:

Message from the President:

As we shared with those in attendance at the all member meeting held on Monday, April 14th, River Oak Swim and Racquet Club’s three year General Liability and Property Insurance policy expires in early May.  We were notified back in March that our long term carrier, Cincinnati Insurance, would not be quoting a renewal policy for us as the high dive was not an exposure that their underwriters would cover.

We began the process of shopping for new coverage through new agencies and new insurance carriers.  Despite great efforts made, we were unable to find any carriers willing to write/quote coverage for us – even in Excessive Risk markets.

Fortunately, Cincinnati came back and agreed to write coverage if we removed the high dive from the property.  Reluctantly, the board voted unanimously to remove the high dive so that our facility could continue forward.

Please understand, this was not a decision easily made.  We understand that disappointment and frustration our members may feel.  Sadly, the loss of the high dive was something entirely out of our hands.

The high dive will be removed the first week of May.  Please stay tuned for a revised opening date.  Brandy

Treasurer Update/Ann Porter:
Thank you to the members who paid your dues and work day assessments on time.

However, we still have almost 40 families who have made no payments and the second installment is fast approaching.

As these fees are now past due, all privileges are now suspended. This includes the ability to reserve tennis or pickleball courts and the right to play on a River Oak tennis team. You are now also subject to a $30 per month late fee.You may pay your dues by depositing a check or cash in the locked mailbox near the pool entrance. You may mail to:
River Oak Swim and Racquet Club

3100 River Drive, Lawrenceville, GA 30044.You may also use the above address for your bank’s on-line bill pay.You may also choose to remit your payment via PayPal.However, we must ask you to absorb the PayPal fee. So to pay you first installment + work day + late charge, please pay $395 to River Oak Swim and Racquet. If you wish to pay the full year dues + work day + late charge, please pay $703.If you believe this information to be in error, or you desire to discontinue membership, please contact me at [email protected].

Building and Grounds/Sherri Fowler:

Membership Chair/Tena Lynn :

We are welcoming several new families this year and are actively seeking new families to join our community.
Growing and maintaining membership is the foundation of keeping our club viable and thriving. As happens each year, we have members moving out of our area and terminating their memberships. It is critical that we bring in new members to balance out those that leave. Some of the incentives to help encourage new members to join us this year include:
– $200 membership fee waived
– An extra $50 referral fee for the first 10 new member families in 2025. (Member Sponsored)
– You can still offer your $100 referral fee to a prospective member to offset their initial cost. Please reach out to me directly for more information at : rosrc.membership@gmail

.

Secretary/ Vicki Spratlin:

Wristband update-
* New 2025 member bands, as well as new guest bands of a different color, will be distributed in early May.

Traditional Round Robin tennis will take place on Memorial Day.
Congratulations to our Senior Mixed  team for winning their division!

Junior Activities Chair/Robyn Davenport:

Last day of school, May 21st- popsicle party!

GENERAL UPDATES

Swim Team:
River Oak Rapids Swim Team is excited to announce that Cyd Brown will be leading the team again this year. Any swim team related questions can be directed to either Cyd at [email protected] or to Brandy Howell at [email protected].There will be two home meets this swim season. Dates to come.

Social Chair Needed:

ROSRC Board seeking a Social Chair…
We understand the hesitancy to volunteer for this role as it has historically required a lot of work and time. The board is approaching this role differently this year to make it more of a lead role that has more support from the board and general membership volunteers for the heavy lifting. If you would consider joining and would like to ask questions or get more information, please contact any current board member.

ROSRC Book Club: NEW!

New this year, we’d like to introduce an ROSRC Book Club. Our first book will be Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt and we will hold our first Book Club Meeting in May – date TBD. Currently – we are looking at week nights early in the week but are open to feedback from those interested. Please email me at [email protected] with book selection suggestions and date/time suggestions for our meetings.  Please consider picking up the book, giving it a read, and join us for poolside discussion!

See you at the pool-
